Spring Exercise in the Three Training Yards

  As spring is approaching days of snow have been sealed in the memory of the year passed. We open our arms to the warmth of the gentle breeze and to the sun; now comes the spring!

  Spring indicates the rebirth of life. You can find signs of the seasonespecially in the academy being enclosed in the hills of Wudang. Trees of the hills seem to be full of spirits, winter frost on the trees shaken off by spring breeze, the trees revived and stalwart once again. Birds spring from their nests, chirping and singing as if saying,“What a nice spring!”

  In the backyard of ShixingKungfu Academy everything is refreshed on the Taiqing Yard. Osmanthus trees surround the yard, spreading their arms to welcome dear guests from all corners of the globe. If you look into Xuanwu Pond you’ll find carefreefish swimming happily in the water. Some of them kissing the surface of water, making slight waves corrugate around. Seeing theflowing curves in water, people will lower their voices lest they disturb the tranquility. As you descend the stairs a colour of red stands out among the newly woken spring trees you’ll find yourself surrounded by breathtaking begonia. Blossoms on the branches look like sparkling butterflies being carried off by the warm breaths of Spring.

  In the yard of Shangqing lives get even more vigorous.All of the students strive to bettertheir gongfu with Sun up above. Everyone wearing an up-lifting look on their faces, as Winter plums being borne out through the Winter snows. Some hone their taiqi, operating with their qi between yin and yang. Others with taiqi fans, dancing slowly, and some even working with polearms and swords. We owe our thanks to Sun for casting out the Winter winds.The days are filled with vigour and energy once again!

  Aslope leads us to the yard of Yuqing where we find another picture of green spreading out in front of us. It is an open ground within the confines of the three faced hills. And it is also one of the training yard for the students from which they can study under Master Chen. They slowly follow the moves and interpret the forms, earnestly learning the essence of taiqi. Far above you can see the blue sky when you stand on Yuqing yard. It is where you find yourself nearest to the sky. Under the heavens, people who exercise taiqi integrate themselves with the universe. That is what ancient sages used to mention as the integral part of integration among Earth and Heaven.
